Chile
Chile is one of the most isolated countries in the world and its wine regions are even
more so… Geographically Chile averages 113 miles east to west, but is over 2,700 miles
from north to south. We will explore the wine appellations Aconqua, Casa Blanca,
Maipo, Maule, and Curico and explain how the geography, soil, and climate make the
wines from these areas stand out! Chile suffered much political upheaval in the latter part
of the 20 th century and its wine industry suffered greatly. However, today Chile is one of
the most dynamic wine regions in the world and it offers some of the world’s greatest
wine values!

Argentina
We will discuss the important wine regions of San Juan, Mendoza, and Rio Negro.
Describe the climate and geography of those regions and explain why being “high is
good.” We will identify significant wines and grape varieties Malbec and Torrontes, and
while Argentina makes wines from many different grape varietals, a classic red Bordeaux
variety, Malbec, is becoming the classic, signature red variety of Argentina. The
Torrontés grape is a variety that is making a name for itself in Argentina’s warmer
northern growing regions. It is native to Galicia in northwest Spain where it contributes
to the delicate white wines of the region.

The Charm City Wine School is now offering Wine 101 Classes that spans the vino globe. These fun & informative classes feature 3 to 4 wines featuring New World and Old-World Wines.
